PRP Treatment – PLATELET RICH PLASMA THERAPY (PRP) – Dracula or Vampire lift

Skin on the face can be our worst enemy; it’s nearly always on show and is often the biggest indicator of passing time. As we age, deep wrinkles and lines appear on the face, damage from too much time in the sun shows through spots and marks, and scars or pitting can leave us looking tired. The skin’s colour can sometimes change to a grey tone, making the face appear worn or aged.

Non-invasive PRP Therapy

Also known as the Vampire Facelift or Dracula Therapy, PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy is an innovative approach to anti-ageing, which uses your body’s own healing process to rejuvenate and restore the skin.

Common treatment areas:

  • Areas around the eyes
  • Face (cheeks and mid-face)
  • Acne scarring
  • Neck (thinning skin)
  • Jawline and surround area under the jawline
  • Back of hands and arms
  • Chest and décolletage
  • Areas of hair loss (scalp for men and women)

This natural and safe treatment uses your own blood, which is extracted and enriched (with no chemicals or additives) in an easy and comfortable process and is then re-injected into your face through several ‘meso-type’ tiny injections.  The benefits of this approach are the natural and self-healing effects of regenerated skin, improved skin vitality, improved sun damaged skin, and better skin hydration.

Platelets contain important growth factors that, when secreted, are responsible for:

  • tissue regeneration and rejuvenation
  • increasing collagen production
  • recruiting other cells to the site of injury to assist with healing
  • initiating blood vessel growth
  • inducing cell differentiation which means that all the different cells required for rejuvenation are stimulated
  • bone mineralization i.e. making healthier bones
  • extra cellular matrix formation – this is the connective tissue that holds everything together and gives it shape and form
  • tissue adhesion especially in skin flaps, bone grafts and trauma. This means tissues stick together giving it strength.

The Treatment

The Vampire Facelift is a non-surgical rejuvenation technique. It works by using a component of the blood called platelets and plasma, which is widely known for its ability to treat burns and skin injuries.

In the treatment, a small amount of blood is taken from the patient (around 10-40ml) in much the same manner as it would be for a blood test. It is put in a special kit and  placed in a centrifuge and spun to separate the platelets and plasma from red blood cells and other components.

Local anaesthetic can be applied to the areas that require treating before the refined PRP is injected into the skin using a very fine needle. Key to PRP is the growth factors released from the platelets. When injected into the skin, a multitude of growth factors are released which stimulate surrounding cells to start the healing cascade. This, in turn, encourages the  production of collagen and preadipocyte cells to plump and add volume.

The Results

PRP treatment gives a rejuvenated, natural glow to the face. Skin appears less grey, and wrinkles or creased areas are given more volume. Worn skin texture appears rejuvenated and refreshed. The treatment is ideal for patients who wish to restore a more youthful appearance without surgery.

Combination treatments:

PRP  treatments can be performed  safely in combination with other non-surgical and surgical procedures like the liquid facelift with dermal fillers and BOTOX .

PRP with facelift, neck lift, eyelid surgery, fat transfer to face or nose surgery,  or after these procedures , will also  help to promote  faster healing  and maintain the results over time.

  • Where can the treatment be used?
PRP treatment can be used to restore a variety of areas. It is commonly used on the face around the eye, mouth and nose area, and it can be used to restore areas of scarring. Hair thinning for men and women.
  • Who is the treatment suitable for?
Providing you are in generally good health and have realistic expectations on what to expect, PRP Therapy is suitable for most. The ideal patient will normally range from between 30-60 years in age and won’t have too much loose skin or excessive drooping around the eyelid.
The treatment will not produce the same results as a surgical facelift and during the consultation, your doctor will advise you on whether it will produce the results you want. Some people who are not suitable for a surgical facelift may benefit from PRP Therapy. The treatment is not recommended for those with platelet dysfunction syndrome, critical thrombocytopenia, hypofibrinogenemia, haemodynamic instability, sepsis, some acute or chronic infections or chronic liver photology. Those undergoing anticoagulant therapy are also not suitable candidates. During consultation, your doctor will discuss your medical background with you in detail to ensure the treatment will be safe for you.
  • Are Platelet-Rich Plasma injections safe?
Yes, the treatment is non-surgical and uses blood obtained from the patient, meaning there is minimal risk of infection, reaction or rejection by the body.
  • Are there any side effects?
As the treatment is minimally-invasive there are relatively few side effects associated with PRP therapy. You may experience swelling, bruising, soreness and redness immediately after the procedure, but this will usually subside within a few days of treatment.
  • How long do results last for?
The PRP is placed in a syringe and is then injected into the deep dermis or fat layer of the skin using very small needles. The various proteins in the PRP gradually increase collagen formation, connective tissue formation, which aids skin volume and skin rejuvenation. Results from PRP Therapy vary, but most will last up to around 18 months. Touch-ups after around 12 months can preserve the treatment’s benefits.
  • How long does the treatment take?

A PRP session normally takes around 45 to 90 mins, depending on your treatment areas . You may need a course of treatments, which your doctor will advise upon during consultation. Many patients find a course of 3 every 4-6 weeks very beneficial.
  • How long is recovery from a Vampire Facelift?
Minimal – since there is no surgery involved, you should be able to resume your day to day activity almost immediately. We advise avoiding any vigorous or strenuous activities for the first few weeks after the procedure.
You should also avoid UV exposure to the area for at least 1-2 weeks.
